Face To Face tours began in the United States in 1995 and in 1996. The tour went overseas to Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Europe in 1998, although the European leg was curtailed after Billy suffered throat problems. The duo only managed Dublin in Eire that summer, Glasgow in Scotland, then Manchester, England, was cancelled.

The two June 1998 shows at Wembley Stadium in London went ahead with Elton replacing Billy and doing a mammoth 3 1/2-hour session which in 1999 and 2000 became the “norm” for his sold-out solo gigs.

The 31-date Face To Face 2001 tour grossed $59 million.

Early sales for the Elton John/Billy Joel Face To Face 2002 tour of the American northeast set box office records, selling out eleven shows in four cities with additional shows added at each location and new cities being added to the itinerary.

Among other dates added: New York’s Madison Square Garden on March 15 and 18, 2002. Tickets for these shows went on sale on January 19, 2002.
