It is still available for streaming on Disney+.

Marshall-Arts says that at least 6.25 million people caught Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. It began in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in September 2018, and was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and Elton’s hip injury (and subsequent surgery). The tour grossed a record-setting $939 million, says Billboard, but artists such as Taylor Swift and Beyonce have a chance to surpass him.

You’ll recall that Paul McCartney saw Elton at Glastonbury. The former-Beatle filmed Elton as he sang Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me. According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Paul didn’t think Elton’s previous announcements about retiring were a good idea. While Paul is renowned for writing lyrics, his wording this time around was inaccurate. Paul once said that his group never planned on a grand farewell tour, as there was always a chance they’d reunite. ”It’s like Elton’s farewell tours, they just look a bit silly after a while.”

Elton made announcements about retiring in the past, but didn’t actually embark on a final tour until Farewell Yellow Brick Road. One of his declarations came in October 2000 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, when Elton told his stunned audience, ”One more album and I’m done.” That led to the New York Post headline: ”He’s still standing, but soon he’ll retire.”

Elton’s still standing when it comes to the music charts in Australia and United Kingdom. Diamonds, his 2017 collection of hits, continues to be among Aria’s Top 50 Albums. Not only is it in 21st place for the week of 17 July, the disc has been listed for a mind-boggling 243 weeks! In the UK, it’s #7 on the Official Charts’ Top 100 Albums for the week of 13 July-19 July. The 2017 release is #5 on the Official Top 40 Biggest Albums of 2023 so far.

Giggers Elton, Dua Lipa, and Stormzy have reportedly boosted municipal coffers in North-West England by 696 million pounds.

There was a resurgence of live music in 2002 following the pandemic lockdown, with 1.9 million music tourists coming to the region. Many of them saw Dua Lipa at Manchester’s AO Arena, Stormzy at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, and Elton at Anfield-Stadium in Liverpool, England.

A music company has apparently benefitted from Elton’s Glastonbury performance. Casio Music UK says that in the week following the festival, sales of its digital pianos and keyboards more than doubled, compared to same period last year. Traffic to its website went up 70%, and in fact, Google searches for ‘pianos/keyboards for beginners’ increased by 20%.

Add another letter, and ”Casio” becomes ”Casino.” That brings to mind Steve Casino, whose celebrity-inspired-pieces are made with peanut shells. His subjects have ranged from the Rocket Man to Batman. Elton, portrayed alongside a red piano, was the ”first one who was any good.” Steve also feels a connection because they were both born on the 25th of March.

Elton has worn some nutty apparel over the years. He’s been known to wear a sharp suit, too, which Esquire editors have observed. They have come out with a list of Elton’s best outfits over the years, including one that seems to say, ”you can never have too many patches.” Which would you choose?

And if you are about to choose a podcast to listen to, we’d recommend EJW’s. Stuart Epps, who used to work with Elton, was on the latest episode. The new one’s a roundtable special with some fans who attended the finale of Elton’s farewell tour in Stockholm, Sweden. Thanks to Stephen Heimbecher, founder of Elton Fan, latterly the Hercules fan club; Elton author Claude Bernardin; Paul Smith, founder of Facebook group Elton John Online; as well as Sandra and Tania Differding, identical twins who perform with former Elton John Band member John Jorgenson. And apologies to Claude for technical glitches during his portion of the broadcast. We hope to welcome him back another time.
