”Knight moves”… That’s how the Review-Journal summed up Elton’s latest gig. On Wednesday night, he appeared at the Cisco Live conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. Industry sources say he could’ve made as much . . . are you sitting down? . . . as five million dollars. Indeed, as Elton Blog #12 reported, inflation has even impacted private gigs.
CNN credits a number of concert residencies with defining Sun City’s Strip, and they range from Usher to Elton.
Ultimate Classic Rock, meanwhile, listed ten classic artists who changed Las Vegas. Elton is #7. Among others making the grade are Kiss, U2, the Grateful Dead, Wayne Newton, the Beatles, and of course Elvis Presley. Funnily enough, they call Elton’s second residency ”The Gold Piano,” not ”Million Dollar Piano.”
Actually, that could be the name of the star’s third residency, right? There’s been speculation about a return to Vegas. If so, it would be briefer than The Red Piano (2004-2009) and Million Dollar Piano (2011-2018).
You’ll remember that Elton’s last gig in England was at Glastonbury. Now Elton and the BBC iPlayer have announced that the Glastonbury Festival performance will be available to listen to and watch on the platform from 25 June. It is part of the Summer of Sport and Music series.
Some critics seemed to think that the first run of Elton and Shaina Taub‘s musical should have been the last. But since the premiere in Chicago, Illinois, in 2022, changes have been made.
The Devil Wears Prada has a new creative team as well as a different director, Jerry Mitchell. He’s also the choreographer. The producers for the UK engagement remain the same, though: David Furnish and Kevin McCollum.
The timing is certainly better. A couple of years ago, as pointed out by WTTW, the world was still in chaos because of the pandemic. And with so many people working at home in tank tops and jogging pants, the ”high budget production” was not appropriate.
It was previously announced that Vanessa Williams and Matt Henry were on board, and now The Devil Wears Prada‘s full cast has been named, with players such as Georgie Buckland, Amy di Bartolomeo, James Darch, and Rhys Whitfield. Previews start soon, on 6 July, at Theatre Royal Plymouth in Devon. The opening at London’s Dominion Theatre is on the 24th of October.

Another musical–Elton and Jake Shears‘ Tammy Faye–is headed for New York City’s Palace Theatre. Previews start on 19 October. Opening night is 14 November.
Bernie Taupin attended an opening yesterday in Hendersonville, Tennessee, for his art show, American Resurrection. His creations are at the Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center through 14 July. On Saturday, the center sponsored Brunch With Bernie. For a $50 fee, attendees got to hear from a legend and receive a copy of his book, Scattershot.

It was just over two years ago (in May 2022) that Elton and Dua Lipa‘s Cold Heart (Pnau Remix) shot to the top of Billboard‘s Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart. More recently, on Spotify, it hit two billion streams. Elton thanked fans for making it his most streamed track.
