Roots And Reverberations
A suit with embroidered roses, used to promote the Flying Burrito Brothers’ album The Gilded Palace of Sin, and Elton’s singles Your-Song and Rocket Man (also worn when Elton was best man at Bernie Taupin and Maxine Feibelman‘s wedding), is on display in Nashville, Tennessee. It was owned by the late Chris Ethridge before being swiped from an automobile; then returned to the shop of the designer Nudie Cohn, before Elton snapped it up. According to a press release, Ethridge’s daughter, Necia, learned only last year that the outfit was offered by a private collector. Now it’s been reunited with the three other Flying Burrito Brothers‘ ”Nudie” suits at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock exhibit. Necia was there, and said her dad would have been pleased by the outcome because he loved his bandmates, and proud to learn his ensemble was worn by Elton.
And that’s not all: Necia told the Taos News that she received an email from John Reid, Elton’s former manager. John said that he tried on the suit as well.
As reported previously by Elton-John-World, Bernie Taupin attended the opening of ”Western Edge.” His own exhibition at Choice Contemporary in Brentwood, California, is called Reflections. Inspired by his famous collaborations with Elton, the works can be seen through the end of July.
Last Monday, Elton and David Furnish teamed up to support Kevin Spacey. They gave testimony via video link from Monaco last week in the actor’s UK sex assault trial. One of the attacks allegedly took place in a car, on the way to one of the EJAF‘s White Tie and Tiara balls.
Elton observed that Spacey actually arrived by private jet, not by car. And David pointed out that Spacey only attended one such fundraiser, which was in 2001. . . not the year in which the accuser claimed he was attacked.

Spacey’s lawyer, Patrick Gibbs, said that the 63-year-old has been ”tried” and ”cancelled” on social media. So during his closing speech on Thursday, he commended both Elton and David for their bravery in testifying.
Other well-known White Tie and Tiara attendees have included Mick Jagger. He filmed a bit of it for his documentary, Being Mick. He and Elton discussed Madonna, the latter saying she–and maybe everyone–tried too hard to be artsy. Mick made a joke about having an Elton John channel, but we think it’s a good idea!
Government officials in Georgia–the country, not the state in the U.S.–don’t think a book about Elton John was a good idea for McDonald‘s to include in their Happy Meals. Dream party officials believe the-fast-food-restaurant is promoting the LGBT lifestyle to children because the story of Elton mentions his husband.

Another eatery in Glasgow, Scotland, probably made a record, thanks to Elton’s order. Last month when Elton played the Ovo Hydro, he spent over 600 pounds on food for his crew. The Dennistoun Bar-B-Quereceipt included 25 BBQ pork buns, 25 BBQ brisket buns, six chicken burgers, 10 portions of garlic fries, and some vegetarian options.

Elton’s ”swan song” is discussed in the latest issue of Mojo magazine. He felt privileged to be able to play Glastonbury, and to ”bow out on a high like that.” After that, Elton’s remaining gigs on his farewell tour–even with thousands in attendance–felt as intimate as a nightclub.

We’ll end up this week’s Elton Blog with condolences to Tony Bennett‘s family. The 96-year-old died after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Tony was remembered by Sir-Elton, who called his friend ”irreplaceable.”

For his 90th birthday, the crooner was saluted by NBC, and the TV special featured Elton singing Can-You-Feel-The-Love-Tonight via video. More recently, a children’s book, Tony Bennett: A Little Golden Book Biography, was released. The publisher, who has also released titles about Lucille Ball and Taylor Swift, plans a picture book about Elton next year.
