On 23 May 1975, Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s autobiograhical Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy was released in the UK and USA – to become a defining hit album.
It was delivered in the most creative artwork cover to ever grace an Elton John LP. That was the work of celebrated artist Alan Aldridge.
Radio Elton John celebrates the half century with a 90-minutes interview with Elton’s Art Director in the 1970s David Larkham and Alan’s photographer/artist son Miles Aldridge.
In the programme, David explains his work and how Alan was chosen by Elton and Stephen James, with a link back to previous work for Dick James Music’s release of the Groovin’ With Mr Bloe album in 1970.
Miles tells us of what went on backstage at Wembley 1975, when Elton bravely debutted the new album to a live audience, and also tells us how he photgraphed Elton for TIME magazine last December – almost 50 years on from the previous Elton front cover for TIME.
