In 2008, Robert Knight‘s Rock Gods: Forty Years was published. It had shots of the Rocket Man, so when the photographer saw the singer, he presented him with a copy of the book.
Robert told EJW’s Cheryl Herman that they hung out backstage, after one of the luminary’s Red Piano concerts in Las Vegas. The artist shared a photo of Elton with Tyler Bryant, a young guitar player Robert was managing. They were accompanied by the headliner’s bountiful collection of bobblehead dolls.
A revised and updated softcover edition of the aforementioned book is due on January 16. Rock Gods: Fifty Years contains a foreward by Slash and recollections of meeting names like Elton; Long John Baldry; Jimmy Page; and Ringo Starr. There are also lots of striking pictures, from Elton performing in Hawaii to James Brown appearing at his Rockwalk Induction in Los Angeles.
Robert has admitted to EJW that his passion lies with guitar bands, but he enjoyed getting to know Elton ”and from him Rod {Stewart} etc. etc.”
