Elton will soon be walking quite a few red carpets, starting with movie screenings in Canada and the U.S.

The singer is expected to attend the Toronto International Film Festival next month for the world premiere of his documentary, Never Too Late, co-directed by David Furnish and R.J. Cutler. According to press notes, it describes the ”soaring highs and crushing lows” of his life and career, and ”nothing beats” the rare images on display or Elton’s candour.

Elton will also be heading to Never Too Late‘s American premiere. It’s to be one of the New York Film Festival‘s Spotlight selections.

Another big event will be held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California, on 22 October. Elton will perform at the Spirit of Life gala honouring his friend, philanthropist and AEG Presents chairman Jay Marciano. It’s presented by the City of Hope cancer institute, and will also feature magician David Blaine and emcee Fred Armisen.

Under Jay’s leadership, AEG Presents promoted two of the most successful concert tours in history–Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road and Taylor Swift‘s Eras.

What else is up? WhatsApp! That’s right, Elton will soon see his music available on Meta‘s messaging service.

This is because Universal Music Group, which represents Elton, Adele, Billie Eilish, and many others, reached an accord with Mark Zuckerberg‘s Meta Platforms. The deal, which also applies to Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, and Horizon, is an expansion of an earlier agreement. It means that UMG artists and songwriters will get a portion of advertising revenue from the use of licensed music in Meta creator posts.

In addition, Meta has agreed to help identify and weed out music created by AI applications.

Bernie Taupin has spoken out against AI. He believes it is cold, not to mention ”cheap and crass.” This trend belongs ”in the trash can of technology,” he added.

Last week, Bernie was one of the participants at his friend Rodney Crowell‘s It Starts With a Song gathering in Idyllwild, California. He thinks the workshops, which offer masterclasses with Rodney and nightly open mics, are among the world’s best, as they are ”full of energy, integrity, and first class educational value.”

Did you catch the launch of a podcast partnership? This was on 18 August when I Guess That’s why They Call it the Elton John Podcast‘s Neil Barrett joined Radio Elton John live, for a mini podcast via our Silver Plan, a free subscription which includes the ej.w weekly newsletter.

Neil produced 42 thoroughly researched ‘I Guess That’s Why’ episodes, which ran until 2021. Topics have included releases such as Empty Sky and Jewel Box, and the presenter said he will probably add more shows. And Neil is definitely about to return to rej.world on the 31st of August.

Elton would know about collaborations, but not all have been easy. Following his 2011 recording with Kate Bush, Elton admitted to the Guardian that he found her Snowed in at Wheeler Street to be strange and complex–yet he loved it.

Kate previously covered Rocket Man for the album Two Rooms: Celebrating The Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin.

A man who calls himself the Atlantic Rocketman–with Elton’s backing–has raised 12,000 pounds for the EJAF, but wants to earn more. In December, Andrew Major will be rowing solo 3,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic in a race called The World’s Toughest Row. The 60-year-old told the Daily Mail that he’s actually a marathon runner. ”I have rode on rivers before but nothing like this.”

He wanted to do this for ”a great cause, and the Elton John AIDS Foundation does wonderful things.”
