As Elton is on the last leg of his final tour, we would like to know which moments have stood out for you. NME has come out with some favourites, noting Elton’s enthusiasm and inclusion of ”lesser known” numbers. They may be kind of correct about Have-Mercy-on-the-Criminal, but that’s hardly the case with Burn Down The Mission, which has been performed many times live. Also appreciated is the old hit, Bennie and the Jets, which remains as ”powerful” as ever. Elton has said he enjoys seeing people recognise the song as soon as he hits the opening note.

In one instance, a concertgoer wasn’t familiar with Tiny Dancer! A fan told UNILAD that someone was spotted using the Shazam app to identify the song.

Pat Boone recently told Fox News Digital that he confronted Elton upon noticing that Crocodile Rock contained ”la, la, las,” similar to what he used in his 1962 hit, Speedy Gonzales. Pat said Elton thought he might be sued, but the older singer said he was actually flattered. ”As performers, we’re thrilled when somebody does something we did.”

Record Store Day was held in April, and the 50th anniversary edition of Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player was one of the highlights. Daniel was among the disc’s session demos.

When Elton and Ray Cooper played Moscow in 1979, a livelier rendition of Daniel was part of the set list. It was 44 years ago this month–on the 21st of May in 1979–that the pair embarked on their tour of the Soviet Union.

On Thursday, an unusual version of Hakuna-Matata was performed by James Corden and Tom Cruise. They joined The Lion King cast at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, California . . .  a way for the TV host to say farewell to his Late Late Show audience after eight years.

Aida, another Elton-John and Tim Rice musical, has been reworked (although the tunes remain the same), and the premiere was held last week in the Netherlands. Yet another John/Rice project was to be Joseph-and-the-Amazing-Technicolor-Dreamcoat, but Elton is no longer involved. Instead, Jon M. Chu will direct a new film version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical for Amazon Studios. We were fascinated to learn that Tim didn’t originally want to be involved with musicals. He told The Stage last year that his dream was to be a pop star.

Have you visited any of the Elton John pop-ups, or plan to? The Bicester Village store in Oxfordshire, England, with Elton-John-Eyewear, closes today, and the one in Kildare Village, near Dublin, Ireland, will cease operations on Wednesday. Meanwhile, fans in Germany are in luck. Ingolstadt Village currently has a pop-up, and another opens tomorrow  at Wertheim Village, outside Frankfurt. A small portion of the proceeds goes to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Later this year, the EJAF will be among the beneficiaries when Sothebys auctions off Freddie Mercury‘s handwritten lyrics, stage costumes, and other possessions. Ahead of the event in London, England, highlights will go on display at Sotheby‘s galleries in New York City; Los Angeles, California; and Hong Kong. Then the collection can be viewed at the London auction house from 4 August until 5 September. Bidding starts on the sixth of September.

Elton recently expressed his admiration for a couple of entertainers. He sent a huge bouquet to singer and actress Linda-Nolan, who has been diagnosed with incurable cancer but has been able to remain courageous and upbeat, and is hopeful about starting a new treatment.

Upon learning of Barry Humphries‘ passing, Elton said it was a sad day, and remembered the comic, known for his drag persona Dame Edna Everage, as being both sweet and funny.
