The Elton Blog is concerned about so many AI images popping up on social media. In particularly poor taste are pictures of Elton and Paul McCartney, supposedly singing and sobbing at Ozzy Osbourne’s funeral.

So Bernie Taupin’s Instagram post about AI is really relevant. He doesn’t like following posts, as it’s difficult to discern what’s real and what’s fake. And Bernie doesn’t see why anyone would care about most of what is up there.

In related news, there has been speculation about an Elton John hologram. When the singer announced the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour back in 2018, he was asked about this, and claimed he wasn’t interested.

What’s more, his kids ”begged” him not to do this.

Even so, Elton isn’t the ”Luddite” he likes to call himself. When he announced his last tour, a short film, featuring ”Elton” at two pivotal L.A. appearances (the Troubadour Club and Dodger Stadium), was shown, using a body double and visual effects. And a few years ago, the star entered the Roblox universe with Elton John Presents: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road. Perhaps you joined in what was billed as a ”full virtual experience” of the star’s music and career?

More recently, a bill on how UK creatives’ data can be used when training AI models passed into law. Elton was right to oppose this: As Forbes points out, the legislation fails to strengthen copyright protection or clarify enforcement. That’s despite the rapid growth of commercial AI training models.

There seems to be a tendency to jump on the latest technology without considering the drawbacks.
