A new series of independent reviews by a dedicated, decades-long Elton John fan, former Hercules Finland chief, Urpu Kallio of the Saturday Night’s Alright for Podcasting series of interviews available at rej.world
So this was quite a fun episode to listen! I am absolutely stunned by everything John Jorgenson has going on. He is a busy musician. My head is spinning with all the tours and places and bands for just next weeks.
Also all the stars he has been working in the past, wow. One of them being Elton John, of course. I can remember seeing him in videos of Elton’s concerts and also in the Tantrums and Tiaras documentary in the 90’s.
And the multitalent that he is! Started young with piano and then finally got to guitar, which obviously has been a good choice for him, but don’t make me list here all the instruments he can play. That would be a long list. Something about his talents tells a song here, in which he plays all the other instruments except the drums. Oh, and he’s done the movies too…
I liked the story about a certain kind of guitar he saw, and needed to get, to play it at the Made in England tour. I used to play a little bit acoustic guitar when I was young, many Elton songs of course, so guitar is close to my heart as an instrument.
About Made in England, did you know that Elton met the producer Greg Penny in the 70’s? He got to see Elton recording Goobye Yellow Brick Road, and became later a producer, and there we go. And yes, Made in England is one of my favourite albums too, so well produced.
So a fun episode with lots of humour, though the ending is then quite sad. We hear a John Jorgenson song, which he made to reflect his feelings about the suicides of his two friends. One of them being Bob Birch. I did not know this. Well, now I know. Always learn new pieces of information from these podcasts.
Enjoy.
