When it comes to music awards, Elton seems to have received most, if not all of them. Now, he’s even won Triangle Player of theYear . . . if you go by the latest Super-Bowl advertisement. The Doritos spot begins when rapper Jack Harlow is in the studio and is seeking a new idea. He finds it when he notices that the shape of a Dorito is similar to the triangle in his studio. This kicks off a craze which even sees a dog on the runway with a triangle-shaped hairdo!
This isn’t Elton’s first rodeo: In 2012, he appeared during a Super Bowl intermission. That was on behalf of Pepsi, with a bored ”King Elton” holding a talent competition.
Across the pond, one of Elton’s favourite teams–the Watford Hornets–played on Saturday. The match ended in a 1-1 draw with the Blackpool Rovers. The matchday programme contained a tribute from the Watford FC Honorary Life-President. It was for the late Oliver Phillips, the Watford Observer‘s longtime sports editor and assistant editor. Elton called him a ”big man with a big character and a big heart” and ”a brilliant wordsmith.” The 81-year-old will have the Media Suite inside Vicarage Road Stadium‘s Sir Elton John Stand named in his honour.
Another wordsmith, Bernie-Taupin, has posted his thoughts about Burt Bacharach, who died last week at the age of 94. Bernie said he was ”the master” and ”class personified.” He added that they had worked together, but that not much saw ”the light of day.”
Burt wrote That’s What Friends Are For with Carole Bayer Sager, his wife at the time. Elton, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, and Gladys Knight raised millions for AIDS research when they collaborated on the song. Elton John posted a picture from the recording session, and wrote that Burt was the ”Rolls Royce of songwriters” who has left behind ”a treasure trove of unique melodies.”
On 12 March, the Elton John Aids Foundation is holding their next Academy Awards Viewing Party, and the guest artist will be Rina Sawayama. Elton is thrilled to be back. Last year, he was on tour so briefly tuned in via video.

Your-Song has been added to the archives of the Ed Sullivan Show. It’s performed by the New Seekers, not Elton. By the time the British band appeared, the TV programme was no longer on the air, but there was a series of specials. The New Seekers also covered the song on their album, Beautiful People.
Another version of Your Song is being talked about on social media. It’s from Caleb Oman, who had finished his day at acting school in British Columbia, Canada, when he came across a miniature piano outside P.S. pianos, and couldn’t resist sitting down and tickling the ivories.
The Elton Blog is signing off for now, but not without offering belated birthday wishes to two members of the Elton John Band. John Mahon celebrated his 67th birthday on the 23rd of January. And on Friday, Nigel Olsson turned 74. This coincided with an anniversary. On 10 February, 1973, Crocodile-Rock was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
