‘Never Too Late’ is Au Courant

The nominations for the Academy Awards have been unveiled, and they include the title track from Elton’s Never Too Late documentary. This is up for Best Original Song.

But it isn’t likely that Elton will perform the number at the Oscars. . . . The Motion Picture Academy announced that this year, they are moving away from live performances in the Best Original Song category. They plan, instead, to offer personal reflections from the teams who bring these tunes to life, and uncover the stories and inspirations behind the latest nominees.

Whatever happens, this is hardly Never Too Late‘s only recognition. Thanks to his work on the music, Elton could be receiving a GLAAD Media Award. He’s been nominated for Outstanding Music Artist.

In November, the song Never Too Late, which was written by Elton, Brandi Carlile, Andrew Watt, and Bernie Taupin, was the recipient of a Hollywood Music in Media award (Best Song in a Documentary Film). At the event, Bernie himself was honoured for Career Achievement.

It’s been a different story across the pond, where the BAFTA contenders have been announced. Never Too Late didn’t make the cut, but had been considered in the Documentary category.
