Elton blog #92 -ALBUM UPDATE

Elton’s album has been ”officially handed in.” So a source informed The Sun, adding that the star has been working on the music over the summer. Elton seems to have had his doubts about the material, since he announced its completion during the wonderful night last year when Bernie Taupin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Now because of Elton’s health problems, the release date is ”up in the air.”
Elton spoke with Variety about his ”distressing” eye infection, which he’s been dealing with for about two months. He is used to checking out the charts, reading newspapers, and ”looking at how the world is doing creatively.”
David Furnish acknowledged that his husband has faced a number of health problems. He believes, though, that Elton could outlive him because he’s ”strong as an ox.” And he’ll thrive, David told Collider, if he continues to move forward, ”like a shark.”
The filmmaker also sat down with People magazine to share the secret behind the couple’s long relationship (lasting over three decades). They never go to bed angry, ”talking out” issues, even if it’s 3 a.m.
Through the end of January, Conrad Indianapolis visitors can see a Taupin/Terry O’Neill collaboration any hour of the day or night. The exhibit is in the lobby of the Indiana hotel, and features part of the Old Friends: Two Sides of The Sixties collection. All of the art was shown last year at the UK’s Iconic Images gallery–where Elton was among those in attendance.

And that’s not all. Bernie contributed a piece called Deconstruction Blues to the Long-Sharp gallery’s Sight/Sound show. The gallery is inside the hotel, and the art can be viewed through the end of January.

Just over a year ago, Bernie’s autobiography was published. Now Scattershot is available in paperback, both in the United Kingdom and America.

Another bestseller is Kari Lavelle’s Ode to Grapefruit. The book is about how James Earl Jones managed to overcome his childhood stuttering to become an actor. Jones, who had the role of Mufasa in The Lion King, died at the age of 93 on 9 September.
He’ll be missed, as will Sergio Mendes. The 83-year-old passed away last week, after battling long-term Covid. Many years ago, he appeared in Paris, France, where his support act was Elton. Ray Williams told Radio Elton John World that Elton was booed at that gig because the crowd preferred to hear the bossa nova musician.
Elton’s recollection involved one irate fellow. As reported by the Guardian, a member of the audience tossed a hot dog at Elton.
Sergio went on to cover Elton’s Where to Now St Peter for his album with Brasil ’77, Homecooking.

Elton’s album, The Big Picture, is about to mark its anniversary. It was released on 22 September 1997. We thought Something About The Way You Look Tonight was the best track.

Paul Carrack, who says he overdubbed some Hammond organ on the song, shared his thoughts with the Elton Blog. At the time, Paul was playing keyboards with Squeeze. The band’s Chris Difford already knew Elton. ”I believe Elton mentored him during his 12 step programme.”
At one of their concerts, Elton came on for a few numbers. ”Naturally,” says Paul, ”the crowd went wild.”
Chappell Roan has complained about some of her admirers crossing boundaries. She is being supported by the likes of Lady Gaga, Lorde, Katy Perry, Sabrina Carpenter, Orville Peck, and Elton. Yet she initially thought Elton was one of those unruly fans.
Chappell revealed to Rolling Stone that he called her from an unknown number, eleven times in five days!
Fontaines D.C.‘s Grian Chatten is another young artist who has gotten Elton’s attention. He appeared on the latest episode of Apple Music’s Rocket Hour.

And remember that Billy Trudel is looking forward to talking to all Elton John’s fans at the end of the month, during the next Saturday Night’s Alright for Podcasting episode recorded by George Matlock.
