(0) recently reported on the passing of Leonard Cohen. Over the weekend, another major musical figure died.

Leon Russell, who worked with Joe Cocker, George Harrison, the Rolling Stones and Elton, was 74.

He died in his sleep, and had been recovering from a heart attack and bypass surgery. He had hoped to go back on the road next year.

A private service is planned for Nashville, and a public service will later be held in Tulsa, Leon’s hometown.

Elton who collaborated with Russell on the 2010 album The Union and helped induct him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, paid tribute on Instagram. “My darling Leon Russell passed away last night, He was a mentor, inspiration and so kind to me. Thank God we caught up with each other and made The Union. He got his reputation back and felt fulfilled. I loved him and always will.”
