On Saturday, Amy Winehouse was discovered, dead, in her London apartment.

It is believed the cause is linked to the 27-year-old’s troubles with drugs and alcohol, but an autopsy will be taking place today.

A number of showbiz personalities have released statements, Elton among them.

He said: She was one of the most seminal artists this country has ever produced.

Lady Gaga wrote on Twitter: RIP to the amazing #amywinehouse. Such a talented singer.

Mark Ronson remarked: She was my musical soulmate and likea sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.

Ronnie Wood said: Its a very sad loss of a very good friend.

Kate Moss tweeted: RIP Amy Winehouse, So upset, my heart goes out to her, sad to see such talent vanish from the world.

Lily Allen said: Its just beyond sad, theres nothing else to say. She was such a lost soul, may she rest in peace.

Rihanna said on Twitter: Dear God have mercy!!! I am SICK about this right now! Dear Amy.

LeAnn Rimes wrote: RIP Amy Winehouse. So sad to see such a talent gone.

Kelly Osbourne tweeted: “i cant even breath right now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!

Demi Moore commented: “Truly sad news about Amy. My heart goes out to her family. May her troubled soul find peace.”

Chris Moyles said: “Shocking terrible sad news about Amy Winehouse. Stunned. Thoughts go out to her friends and family.”

Fans have also been moved, leaving messages and floral tributes to Amy outside her flat.
