Hanley couple Chris and Solaya Rowley bought the former Rosie O’Brien’s Pumphouse in September and will open the upmarket Voodoo Lounge in its place on Saturday, November 28, according to the Sentinel.

Rosie O’Brien’s was originally part of The Place, the biggest nightspot in Stoke-on-Trent for several generations.

In its heyday, The Place hosted luminaries such as Elton and Led Zeppelin and the new owners are hoping to use the building’s iconic status to “shake up” the area’s nightlife with classy live performances.

Chris, who appreciates the establishment’s history, said: ”We are going for real variety, not just indie like at other live clubs.”
