Alex Ko and Kate Hennig are joining the cast of the Elton and Lee Hall’s Tony-winning musical. The former is taking over for Kiril Kulish, one of the trio of young actors who originated the title role on Broadway. Kiril will play his last performance on October 3. And Hennig replaces Haydn Gwynne as dance instructor Mrs. Wilkinson on October 6.
David Bologna, who shares the role of Michael (with Trevor Braun), is also departing the show. He is to make his final appearance on September 27, with understudy Keean Johnson talking over the part.
Ko makes his Broadway debut as Billy. He was the youngest student admitted to the University of Iowa Dance Department at age 12.
Hennig, a Dora Award nominee for her role in The Danish Play is the second Canadian to join the team. Fifteen-year-old Montrealer David Alvarez is currently starring as one of the Billys.
