DVD: Classic Albums: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

The one-hour special Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the Classic Album series is now available on DVD in UK. The item is released in the US on November 6, 2001.

The programme describes the period of songwriting for Elton and Bernie Taupin that started in a distastrous session in Jamaica and ended in the serene French castle Chateau D’Hierouville. Candle in the Wind, Roy Rogers and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road are among the classic tracks featured.

Producer Gus Dudgeon gives us a fabulous insight into the making of the album, stripping down the sound, so that you can hear how various tracks were overlaid…guitars, backing vocals… and engineer David Henshel, lyricist Bernie Taupin and Elton himself discuss multi-tracks and topics such as how quickly the album was recorded. Original band members Davey Johnstone and Nigel Olsson also contribute, as do Del Newman, lyricist Sir Tim Rice and radio DJ and journalist Paul Gambaccini. Tip: Please note: USA DVDs play on Region 1 players, and UK/European releases play on Region 2. Be sure before you by from retailers.
