Brian Moore saw the beautiful game differently. As host of The Big Match on Britain’s ITV, he brought us the best of the old English first division, dipped into the second or lower when the action was good enough, reported The Australian on November 1, 2001.
This was the 1970s, when football managers sported sideburns that tickled their shirt collars and players could still share a pint without Scotland Yard moving in. Brian Moore gave away copies of Elton’s latest album, Blue Moves, just because Elton had bought Watford Football Club. There was always something doing back then.
This is football, a small part of it at least, and it does not reduce to statistics.
Moore lived for that sort of thing. He died in August 2001.
