An Impressive Sum is Raised at Thursday’s Celebrity Ball

Elton dazzled a star-studded audience, including HRH Princess Beatrice, when he performed a series of his greatest hits at an exclusive fund-raiser in London last night.

The music veteran performed hits such as Rocket Man and Tiny Dancer as part of an hour-long set at the Butterfly Ball, which raised money for the Caudwell Children charity, to provide donations of treatments, therapies and specialist equipment to sick and disabled children in the UK.

TV presenter Colin Jackson played host and  a thousand guests (among them Lulu, the Duchess of York, Penny Lancaster Stewart and Shirley Bassey) joined charity founder and billionaire entrepreneur John Caudwell to raise an amazing £1,750,000 for youngsters with disabilities.

Peter Andre also took the stage, performing two songs.

Speaking afterwards, Caudwell commented: It is heart-warming to see so many people willing to help the less fortunate and Im very grateful to all of our generous supporters. We were thrilled to have Sir Elton John headline the event. His performance lived up to everyones expectation and was the perfect culmination of a fantastic event.

Guests were joined on the evening by a number of the charitys young ambassadors, who travelled to London for the special evening. One was Tilly Griffiths from Staffordshire, who inspired the ”Butterfly Ball” moniker by raising over £1m for the cause by auctioning pictures of butterflies to raise money to buy powered wheelchairs–like the one Caudwell Children donated to her.

It was a wonderful evening. It is great to see so much money raised so Caudwell can help other children the same way they helped me, said the girl, who has spinal muscular atrophy.

Attendees raised the money to help disabled kids across the UK by bidding against each other for a series of luxury auction prizes, including a holiday on John Caudwells mega-yacht and a rare opportunity to meet Sir Elton.

Trudi Beswick, Chief Executive Officer for Caudwell Children, said: The night has been a resounding success, we are immensely grateful to our guests and our sponsors who have supported the charity by donating such a large amount of money. The money raised tonight will significantly impact on hundreds of childrens lives living in the UK and I would like to thank our generous sponsors, HSBC Private Banking, Barclays Wealth and Clive Christian, who through their support have ensured that this event was a success.

The venue was Battersea Evolution formerly the Battersea Park Events Arena now known as one of London’s premier party locations.

More about Caudwell will be revealed on Tuesday, when the Sentinel comes out with a 12-page supplement in honour of the philanthropy’s ten years.
