According to the Shrewsbury Chronicle, a pair of Elton’s swimming trunks have been sold at a charity gold day.
Bruce Talmage was the lucky bidder when he offered £300 for a mystery lot that was described as a Versace item once owned by the rocker.
The money raised from the trunks and the other lots gave a £9,895 boost to the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal, which appeals assistant Louise Cliffe said was absolutely fantastic.
The event held at Hawkstone Park golf course for the third year by IT company I3IT was in memory of company director Bob McDermot. Auctioneer Billy Herd said: This year one of the guys had been to the States and had come across Elton John memorabilia.
All we knew was that it was a genuine Versace item worn by him.
Mr. Talmage said he had no idea what he was bidding for but just went for it. I paid £300 its ridiculous isnt it, but its for a good cause.
I was amazed and disappointed at the same time but I thought it was funny, he added.
But he has no intention of wearing the yellow and black zig-zag trunks when he next takes a dip.
I’m going to get them framed and put it up in the toilet. I dont think itll be getting pride of place in my hallway or living room, put it that way, he said.
Mr. Talmage raised an extra £40 by making his inquisitive colleagues pay to see what he had been bidding for…and said he may try and get his own back at next years auction.
