The Sun has revealed that charities backed by celebrities, including Elton’s, are suffering a huge slump in income.

Income at the Elton John AIDS Foundation decreased from 15.6 million pounds in 2008 to 9 million pounds the following year. It was rising steadily until the recession bit.

The Beckhams‘ organisation for ill and disabled children, had an income of 580,000 pounds in 2007. But it crashed to just 13,000 pounds last year.

Another example is Prince CharlesPrince’s Trust, which helps enterprising youngsters. It went down from 56 million pounds in 2006 to 36 million last year.

“As we are all feeling the pinch, people are not inclined to give,” said wealth watchdog Philip Beresford, compiler of the Sunday Times Rich List.

“It is particularly cruel as now is the time the money is needed most – and it is just not there,” he added.

Meanwhile, two theatergoers from Kansas City, Mo., are suing Billy Elliot: The Musical for $2 million each, claiming they were hospitalised after a being struck by a prop while sitting in the front row during a performance on November 23, 2009.
The lawsuit filed in Manhattan on Monday, accuses producers of negligence for hazardous and dangerous choreography, and failing to warn patrons of the risks.
Safety on Broadway has been under the spotlight following injuries to actors in the $65 million Spider-Man musical.
