Mark Blans, who has been living with HIV for 19 years, appreciates benefits like Sunday’s Fashion Cares event at Toronto’s Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

He also told EJW that he found the headliner’s performance to be ”flawless.”

He commented: ”For most of his set it was just him and his piano. Joined by the orchestra and other entertainers for his last number, I’m Still Standing.

”The entire event was, a once in a lifetime type thing. The venue, his costumes, the models, the rich and famous, the other acts (including the Scissor Sisters) and mostly the intimacy of the theatre environment made it incredible, and that’s putting it mildly!

”The event has been a huge success since its inception in 1987.  Fashion Cares has built awareness of HIV/AIDS in our communities while raising funds for the AIDS Committee of Toronto. Combining local and international fashion talent with the media and celebrity studded evenings with lots of elegant cocktails and super hot guests and models in extravagant outfits, and an entertainment spectacle, makes for one hell of a night out!”

On a more serious note, Blans added:

”With a 22-year attendance record of over 50 thousand guests, Fashion Cares has netted profits of nearly $12 million dollars to date.”
