AmFAR Honorees to Include Elton

On February 10, amfAR Chairman Kenneth Cole will be joined by fellow event chairs such as Sandy Brant, Donna Karan, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson, Ingrid Sischy, Sharon Stone, Stanley Tucci, Diane von Furstenberg and Anna Wintour to kick off Fashion Week at amfARs annual New York gala, held at Cipriani 42nd Street.

Elton and David Furnish, as well as Yves Carcelle, president and CEO of Louis Vuitton, will be honoured for their vital and distinctive contributions to the global struggle against AIDS.  The organisation will also pay tribute to the late Natasha Richardson, a former amfAR board member and leader in the fight against AIDS.  Meryl Streep, Vanessa Redgrave and amfAR Founding Chairman Dr. Mathilde Krim will participate in the homage.

The black-tie dinner and auction, now in its twelfth year, will feature special performances by MAC Viva Glam spokesperson Lady Gaga and Rufus Wainwright.

Elton, David and Yves will each receive amfARs Award of Courage for outstanding leadership and distinguished service in furthering amfARs mission, and for playing a vital role in increasing AIDS awareness and accelerating the pace of HIV/AIDS research. 

Since 1998, amfARs New York gala has been one of New York Citys most successful and high-profile AIDS benefits. The event has raised more than $10 million in support of amfARs programs. Previous honorees have included Clive Davis, Richard Gere, Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Hanks, Quincy Jones, Patti LaBelle, Lorne Michaels, Liza Minnelli, Rosie ODonnell, Sumner Redstone, Julian Schnabel, Bobby Shriver, Barbara Walters, Robin Williams and Anna Wintour
